Getting Organised | Part 3: Storage Boxes

I'm the kind of person who likes to collect pretty ornaments and candles and put them on display all over my room. I also like to keep the things that i'm not using in storage boxes and give that box pride of place on a shelf somewhere instead of hiding it away in a cupboard or wardrobe.  

The boxes on the left are old Glossyboxes covered in CathKidston wrapping paper. I'm sure a lot of you have piles of boxes from subscriptions, do you use them to store things like jewellery and cosmetics?

I have covered the middle box in some left over wall paper so that it ties in with the theme of the room. The box on the right is from TK Maxx and is part of the Hello Kitty Liberty range which i'm a big fan of. I use this box to store things like nail polishes. 

How do you store things in your houses? I'd love to hear any new ideas.

Getting Organised | Part 2: Jewellery

Here's the second post in a series about organising. I have no idea how many parts there will be, but I do like to be organised so there may end up being a few! This time I want to talk about ways of storing jewellery as well as displaying it, much like the post about organising your wardrobe.

I wear a watch every day so like to have them out on the side as it's easier to just grab one when i'm getting ready. My favourite is the Nixon Kensington which i've had for almost four years now. I got the strap replaced recently but it's still going strong considering I wear it pretty much every day. I just had to give it a little mention because I love this watch so much and would highly recommend any Nixon watch because of their great quality. 

I got the white stand from Amazon a while ago and it's great for displaying watches and bracelets. However, you can't fit a huge amount on there so it would be worth separating them over two stands in order to add more bracelets. It's made out of a fake white leather material and is pretty bad quality to be honest as the material can rip off easily when you take something off the stand, you just have to be careful.

I like to keep a selection of rings, necklaces and bracelets displayed on a cake stand. My Dad made this for me out of old plates last Christmas. He bought a special drill and attachment to hold the plates together, pretty clever! The jewellery that I have kept in their boxes, such as Tatty Devine pieces sit on the bottom plate of the stand. 

I also like to hang necklaces that I wear often on the corners of my mirror and on pretty hooks.

For smaller necklaces I use this torso shaped stand. I just think it's a really pretty way of displaying more delicate necklaces. It means that I can keep them on my dressing table so that I know where to find them and they don't get tangled.

I recently ordered some clear acrylic drawers from Amazon to store my more statement necklaces in. I thought this would be a lovely idea as they would be visible through the drawers. However, they never arrived and the company are now saying that they won't have any more in until the end of the month so have kindly given me a refund. I'll be on the look out for some more acrylic storage and will probably order a few different pieces from Muji. I keep my everyday make up in an acrylic stand and love the look of it so it will be nice to have a few dotted around my room to store different bits and pieces in.

Recently, my jewellery collection seems to have grown so I do keep most of it in boxes. I'm looking for new ways to store my necklaces so that I can have them on display, so if you have any ideas please let me know!

Getting Organised | Part 1: The Wardrobe

I've always been a very tidy person. Believe it or not, I don't see cleaning as a chore and actually enjoy tidying up and making sure that things are clean. Is that strange that I think it's fun? I find that if the space around me is tidy then I can concentrate a lot better and I feel less stressed. I definitely find it helps when I sit down to do some work because I'm not distracted by all of the things around me. Does anyone else find this? 

I really enjoy looking for new ways to store things so that they are tidied away but also accessible. So here's the first part in a series of posts about 'organising'. I hope that it gives you some useful ideas and perhaps puts you in the mood to do some spring cleaning!

Every couple of months I will dedicate a rainy afternoon to clearing out my wardrobe. This includes, throwing away old things, making a pile of clothes I want to take to the charity shop or sell on eBay (the eBay pile is still sat there waiting) and throwing away old broken hangers that I find lurking at the back of the wardrobe. Every time I do this, I realise that I have so many items of clothing that I never wear and this is when I convince myself not to by any more clothes. This only lasts for a few days, but rearranging my clothes in different ways does make me wear the ones that have been forgotten again. It must be psychological!  

I also find that if my shoes and handbags are all put together in a big bag or box then they never get used because I can't see them and often forget that they are there. So when I went to Ikea at the weekend I picked up a hanging shoe organiser as a way of storing shoes  and smaller bags and also displaying them. This seems to work well as I find that I am more likely to wear them because they are accessible. The handbags that I never use but just can't bare to part with for some strange reason are kept in a big floral storage bag for now. If anyone knows of any ways to store or display bags then please let me know!

The things that I use or wear all the time are stored away in these little boxes, which are also from Ikea. I love the fact that they don't have lids so that I can grab things when I need them but still keep them all pretty organised. They are different sizes but all squares and rectangles so sit nicely together on the shelves in my wardrobe. Each item has it's own box which means that it is a lot easier and quicker to find something, especially if i'm in a hurry.

There are so many different ways that you can organise your wardrobe, I find that boxes seem to be the best way for me to store everything. How do you store things in your wardrobe? I'd love to hear of any other ways to keep everything tidy. 

Decor Ideas: Colourful Towels and Storage Jars

It's surprisingly easy to change up a room in your house without completely redecorating and very true when it comes to bathrooms. 

1. Colourful Towels

I had been meaning to get some new towels for a while but never saw any that I thought were particularly nice...until I came across these in Marks and Spencer. As you can see, my bathroom walls are painted bright turquoise and this is why I went for bright towels. Although they are multi coloured they do have some turquoise on them which ties in nicely and the other colours can then also be incorporated into the room if I want them to be. 

This is a pretty inexpensive way of sprucing up your bathroom. One day i'd love to get some Cath Kidston towels but I guess those will have to wait until I get my own place and can justify the price tag!

2. Interesting Storage

A great way of keeping your bathroom essentials together is by putting them in storage jars. I really like how whatever is being stored is visible! They come in all different sizes and the tall ones would be great for stacking things like bath bombs.

3. Picture Frames

Picture frames are always a great way to add to a room. A bathroom is probably a bit of a strange place to have one but it's always nice to be reminded of one of my favourite places.
